The Journey – Afghan Children on The Run.by Thomas Aue Sobol, Lasse Telling Madsen and Steven Achiam (photos).Caption:Kabir extends his arm. It reveals a heart that he engraved with his nails into the skin. He longs for a girl in Iran where he worked as a child laborer making shoes. Story:Every year 5,000 unaccompanied refugee children succeed in crossing the border to Europe. Most of them are boys from Afghanistan who are travelling without their mother and father. The boys are seeking asylum and a better life but only a few reach their goal. Many boys end up in a dangerous underworld in Athens where they live in fear of violence and deportation. The unaccompanied refugees live side by side with pedophile men, drug addicts and teenage boys who sell themselves for a euro in Alexandra Park in Athens, the largest park in the city. The story was completed in December 2014.
